5 At-Home Healthy Snack Ideas

Having healthy snacks available and on-hand is one of the keys to healthy eating. When the 2:00 pm mid-afternoon hunger strikes and you don’t have any healthy snacks available, it’s easy to turn to sweet treats or salty snacks to get you through the day. Although these kinds of food leave you feeling satisfied with the short-term, they’re often followed by a sugar crash and a lack of energy.

Snacking doesn’t have to be complicated! When choosing a healthy snack, try to include a source of protein (ex. Nuts, seeds, eggs, yogurt, cheese, etc.) with a source of fiber (ex. Fruit, vegetables, whole grain cereals, etc.)

Here are some ideas for quick, easy, healthy snacks that can be made in under 15 minutes:

DIY Trailmix

Having a blend of nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and whole-grain cereals on-hand is the perfect option for a high-protein/high-fiber snack. Simply combine all ingredients into a container or mason jar and pour out a small handful to accompany your mid-morning or afternoon snack.

Mango Chia Pudding

Chia seeds are an excellent source of healthy fats and fiber. Added to the natural sweetness of maple syrup and chopped mango, this snack will give you a tasty boost of energy.

Pre-chopped fruits & vegetables

It’s true - fresh fruits and vegetables are more likely to be eaten when they’ve been prepared in advance. Think about it, when you’re in a rush, you’re much less likely to opt for a carrot that has to be rinsed, peeled and diced! So, for efficiency and convenience purposes, rinse and chop all of your fresh fruits and vegetables as soon as you get home from the grocery store so they’re ready when you need them.

Lemon & Moringa Protein Balls

Protein balls are super delicious and quick to make! This recipe provides natural sweetness from dates, accompanied with healthy fats and protein from pumpkin seeds, cashews and chia seeds.

Yogurt & Fruit sprinkled with Baobab powder

Unsweetened yogurt, especially Greek yogurt, is a good source of protein that will help to keep you full for longer. It’s important to ensure that the yogurt you buy is Plain/Unsweetened. Sweetened yogurts tend to be filled with unnecessary added sugars. Top your yogurt with seasonal fruit & Baobab powder to provide natural sweetness and extra Vitamin C to promote immune health!
