Resurrection Bush - Uses, Benefits, and History

The earth is filled with mystical things.

The leaves of the resurrection plant contract and seem to be dead in the dry season, but astonishingly turn green within a few minutes after you water it. This goes on even when the stems have been picked a while ago.

Let’s find out more about this miracle shrub.

History

Myrothamnus flabellifolius is a small resinous shrub, about 0.2- 1.2 m in height. It grows singly or in colonies with widespread root systems that extend into the fissures of the rocky outcrops with soil depths of 15cms. Its roots are able to capture water draining into these hollows after rainfall, thus starting re-hydration.

Its leaves have wavy, broad tips, with the stalk sheathing at the base creating a joint with the blade. The stem is stiff, more branched, and aromatic.

The fruits are three-lobed, leathery capsules, which are somewhat larger than the carpels at anthesis.
